The primitive 1-8sphe could be replaced with four conical bands that could be more easily patterned.
About the inner zone I have no information, but I think it is empty.

The shape of the inner dome is correct. It's a quarter dome.

I've been thinking of the pattern issue to. I kind of want a hi-res surface to print on. But the flat sides has to match the normal res.
I made something in between on the Porsche fender bricks. A surface based on a 24-sided circle.

Inlined curved faces (cylindrical and spehrical) to avoid bleeding in high resolution; fixed the cutout in the new version.

I found the code in Rebrickable (there is 1871pr0001R and L for the patterned version). In Bricklink the code is 1284pb0001R and L.

Existing certification-votes were deleted.

What about this:

Remove the outer sphere from the s01 file so that the plain file can be used with prims
e.g.

Doing as you suggest, it stays the problem of the cylinder between sphere and cutout that would not pair with the rest.
