Why don't you add more of the mirrored surface in the subfile?
Yes, I find the description confusing. To me this is a "Bracket with Locking Hinges and some random Studs".

(Where is lego going with all of these big, hardly reusable, container blocks?)

Even more surface could be in the subfile, like the half studs and connecting rects.

The top surface is warped, broken, not flat.
