I don't mind the change, but I find it odd that we have two different ways of sorting these.
I can find ~15 different files with segments of parts in the Part-folder with parttype Part,
even though they are segments of a part (i.e. subpart). Most of them are official files.
Make a search in LDFind on "segment".

that's an old story.

these "parts" are only in the "parts" folder so that MLCad users will find them easily for use with LSYNTH.

in fact, they are subparts and belong into parts\s

I think the question is rather; Will LSynth find them if they have parttype "subfile"?

if this becoms a subpart it misses the "s\" in front.

No, because it is placed in parts folder

Then it's a part an should get Unofficial_Part

Status of these parts have been already discussed a LOT... They are not a part since they are not complete - this make them technically a subpart. But they need to be found by users so they need to be placed in parts folder. If you have a better idea...?

Very simple. Rename it to !LDRAW_ORG Unofficial_Part. I don't wanna see
Unofficial_Subparts showing up in the parts folder if we can avoid it.

No, tagging this as "part" instead of "subpart" attaches
wrong semantics to it.
It is already misplaced in the "parts" folder, and that only for a tool which otherwise won't find it.
We should not make things worse by tagging it wrongly additionally.
The exception here is to allow a "subpart" sit in the "parts" folder.
That's bad enough. But additionally "lying" about its type makes things worse, not better.

Instead, we should update LSYNTH...

The current status quo is to have these in the "parts" folder although they are subparts. This was the result of the same discussion some years ago...

Lsynth is not the only culprit. An MLCad use might want to create a tread manually, but for that he must be able to find tread elements so they must reside in parts folder (and not be tilded). Fortunately these old tools don't care for part type...
