Is it correct that the pattern is printed on the inside?
Or is it, like the clock print a reversed print on the top surface, to be seen from the back side, as it is on a trans clear part?

The review on Brickset tells us that it is the case:
The compass is cleverly printed on the convex surface of a trans-clear 6x6 parabola so the design shows through on the concave side.

Print is on the outside! but not as visible as the Rakuten pic.
Interesting though: the Tan and Reddish Brown are covered by a complete white area. Kind of reverse glass painting,

because of our BFC, could it be possible that we use the compass pattern on the outside, but BFC inverted and then cover it with the white outer side? Then you could really see the inner side when using a transparent part...

@rene, that does not work out, there are two surfaces just above each other and in e.g. LDView you get flickering surfaces

I think everyone noticed it, but I write it anyway:
1st the pattern need a rotation of 180° (the "E" is on the "north" of the "Lego" logo, if you look the stud in the image).
2nd the pattern miss the inner brown circle (in this case the quarter subfile) and for these reason the complete pattern needed to be on the outside.
