but why are many vertexes inside a face not merged? and do we need a unpatterned version? does this version need the small unpatterned rim around the print?

I can understand that the grid pattern is a good way to get the pattern right, but then is has to be reduced.
All unnecessary vertices should be removed.
Where does the part number come from? Known as 69205pb01 at Bricklink.
Do you have the part? What number is moulded on the back?
A unprinted version has to be made. Preferably using a common subpart
It looks to me that the print in the photo is misaligned, and printing close to the edge has been improved lately.
