Maybe we should use "Towball" here, since at least to me "Joint-8 Ball" implies a connection with more friction?
I think this has a more loose connection.

On a truck/tractor this "function" is called a Fifth wheel, and the pin on the trailer is a Kingpin, placed in a vertical position.
But this design looks like only the inner of a fifth wheel. The "wheel" part is missing.

the 8-Ball is the black one from poolbillard, why is this used here?
I would prefer Towball (all other parts of this connection family use that)
is the orientation correct? should the 2x2 plate part be at the front/back?

I don't think orientation functionally matters. This one makes the default view explicit.
