now we have 3 similar parts which are all made differently...
do we need the bottom flat part here too?

Please explain. I don't understand.

from the 39888:
https://rebrickable.com/parts/39888/technic-pin-long-without-friction-ridges-with-anti-roll-notch/
in the differences pic you can see thet this a version (single slot) has a flat part on the ring (the same as the b version) but only on the underside...
(I have some, the a version is older because also availiable in oldgray)
should the flat side be upside or downside (its the injection point)

Not possible, unless we allow the use of connect4 (with a different slit depth) or connect2 (which would generate protruding surfaces).

hm, all versions should have the same slit depth... (~3mm)
that collides with the different lengths of the different connectors.

Are you saying that some connect primitives are wrong?

Added a flat section. It should be on the opposite side from the slot.

i have 32556 a and b and the slit depths are the same (when pushed into each other)
but b has thinner ends (like 39888)

From my parts I can observe these dimensions and shapes for the end connectors:
32556a: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but smaller slit 7LDU instead of 8.5LDU => update primitive?
32556b: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but slightly bigger slit 7LDU instead of 6LDU => update primitive?
39888: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connectcollar5.dat with thinner ends => OK as it is!

To make the picture with round holes complete:
77765: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU) instead of 3.4mm (8.5LDU), shape like connectcollar5.dat with thinner ends => should be changed to connectcollar5.dat!

There are plenty of parts using connect.dat and connect2.dat. I just measured a few of the oldest parts in light grey (original parts from 1970's):
3673: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but smaller slit 7LDU instead of 8.5LDU => update primitive?
3748: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but smaller slit 7LDU instead of 8.5LDU => update primitive?

The question is, shall we update and verify all these "old" parts with minor changes in slit size, or keep them as it is and focus on the "new" parts?

For the "new" parts I would suggest to change only
77765: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU) instead of 3.4mm (8.5LDU), shape like connectcollar5.dat with thinner ends => should be changed to connectcollar5.dat!

32556a: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but slightly smaller slit 7LDU instead of 8.5LDU => keep connect.dat and accept (8.5LDU) as it is?
32556b: Slit length 2.8mm (7LDU), shape like connect.dat with normal ends, but slightly larger slit 7LDU instead of 6LDU => keep connect4.dat and accept (6LDU) as it is?
