Is the timeline something like this?
7261 - Transparent only (post 2025)
3660 - obsolete
3660a - obsolete
3660b - solid colours, post 2003
3660c - 1984-2003
3660d - ???-1984
3660e - 1976-???
3660f - 1976-???
the 2003 divide was known before (at the same time with the old/new grey)
e and f are variants of the old one (there are more, but even rarer)
Rebrickable has good pictures (but their variant numbers dont correspond with ours)
our variant indexes are now inverse with the age, higher index=older
1984 is just a rough estimate. Hints:
*From sets I have with verified contents I can say for sure the change must have happened prior to 1990.
*the 1x2 inverted Slope also has variants with the narrower holes and is the only other part in the family released prior to 1980.
*the very similar parts used for the bottom of the airplanes in 1985 Town (4x4 double inverted 4854) all have regular holes
*1984 Castle saw the release of the new inverted corner slope 3676 (no narrow holes variant known)
*the 1x3 and 2x3 inverted slopes are from 1982 and 1980 respectively and come with regular holes only
*all other inverted slopes (that would truly count towards this family) were released much later
*1985 Viking Line Ferry had a printed version (only in modern variant it seems)
*1981 Ideas Book shows the narrow hole variant
*1985 Basic Set box shows what looks like the modern variant
So all in all the time frame would be ca. 1980-1986. Revising the same part twice or more since 1976 seems unlikely, so I'm guessing towards the later years. Since 1984/1985 had all the other new slopes, this seems to be the most likely year.
Perhaps there's a catalogue, box or whatever with a more clear image, but I couldn't find one.
