what is that wide box on the inside center for? there are no studs which are that long to reach it...

The wide box at the bottom and the inside slope is a reinforcement associated with the handle. It goes from one attachment point to the other and then partially up the nozzle.

I think many more surfaces could be moved to the subfile.

yes, for example the sloped reinforcement box inside or the big one above the step, should be replaced with rects in the main part and quads in the subpart...
