But I think I know what's happening. I started by inlining a Tile 4x4, 7151.dat, and in that process the double space is removed.
I see that as a bug in LDPE.

I think there might be cut-outs in the half studs.

Wondered that too. I scrutinized the photo, difficult to be completely sure, one way or the other. BTW, the 45° half stud could possibly be converted into a prim.
